Saint Nichiren
Born in Tojo-go, Awa Province (present-day Kominato), his childhood name was Zennichimaro, and at the age of 12 he ascended to Seicho-ji Temple on Mount Senko, entered the room of Dozen, and studied esoteric Buddhism. Later, he shaved his head and changed his name to Rencho.
From then on he studied sutras and commentaries in detail, posed questions to the Muryogikyo sutra, traveled to Kamakura to study, met Sonkai on Mount Hiei, and accompanied him to Mount Hiei, where he mastered the study of Endon and took up residence at Jokoin Temple in Yokokawa.
From then on, he traveled to temples such as Onjo-ji Temple in Mitsui, Sen'yuji Temple in the east, and Todai-ji Temple in Nara, where he practiced the secret teachings of each sect.He finally returned to his hometown, climbed Mount Seishun, worshiped the morning sun in the eastern sky, and chanted the daimoku loudly, and here he first founded the Nichiren sect.
He then took up residence in Matsubagatani, Kamakura, wrote Rissho Ankoku Ron (The Treatise on the Peace of the Righteous and Safe Place of the Nation) and presented it to the shogunate, but was exiled to Ito in Izu for misleading the people. He was later pardoned, but since then he continued to mock the teachings of various sects and attack the shogunate, so he was exiled again to Sado.
After being pardoned, he went to Kai Province and lived on Mount Minobu, where he established a Buddhist altar, attempted to spread the Lotus Sutra, and devoted himself to writing to promote the teachings. He died at the age of 61, and was buried on Mount Minobu.
