Introducing the Kutani ware painting style: Old Kutani by Goto Saijiro (approximately 360 years ago) The original "Kokutani" style was promoted by the Daishoji domain around the Meireki era (1655). It was under the guidance of Kusumi Morikage, a master of the Kano school of Japanese painting, and uses five colors: blue (green), yellow, red, purple, and indigo. With its pictorially perfected, bold composition and free yet delicate lines, it can be said to be the most typical Kutani style.
Kutani ware is one of Japan's three major colored porcelains and is highly regarded worldwide as a traditional craft representative of Japan, ``Japan Kutani.''
