This is a 1/70 scale wooden sailing ship model of the Oshoro Maru from WoodyJOE.
The Oshoro Maru was modeled after an American cod fishing boat and was a topsail schooner (remodeled into a brigantine the following year) with a gross tonnage of 162 tons.
Built in February 1909 (Meiji 42), an auxiliary engine was installed in March 1913 (Taisho 2), and over the course of approximately 18 years until August 1926 (Taisho 15), it continued on its 26th training voyage, primarily in the Sea of ??Okhotsk and waters near Japan, covering 50,000 nautical miles (1 nautical mile is 1,852 meters) with over 200 students on board.
After completing its duties at Hokkaido University, it was transferred to the Japan Junior Scout League and renamed the Giyuu Wani Maru, becoming a training ship for the Maritime Department.
The name "Ninjiromaru" was the brainchild of then-Professor Yoshisaburo Endo, and was named by University President Shosuke Sato. It was derived from the lyrics of the folk song "Esashi Oiwake Honuta."
The keel and frame, which form the hull's skeletal structure, have been completely redesigned. Without changing the hull's external shape, a box structure has been adopted, resulting in a distortion-free hull shape that is easy to assemble. Laser cutting has also significantly improved processing precision.
The improved frame has also made the hull shape easier to process.
