This is a Seikomatic with 26 jewels, automatic winding model. The Seikomatic is the origin of the nickname "somethingmatic" given to many of Seiko's automatic watches. Developed based on Seiko's popular thin "Liner" model during the heyday of mechanical watches in the 1960s, it was developed as a flagship model for Seiko men's automatic watches and was widely developed.

Weekdaters, starting with the 400 (33 jewels) and continuing through the early models of the 6206 (26 jewels) and 6218 (35 jewels), had the day of the week located at 6 o'clock.
